Prometech has released “Particleworks for ANSYS 1.1”, the enhanced version of the interface product for “ANSYS”

12/6/2019

Prometech Software, Inc. (President: Tsuyoshi Sumiya, Head Office: Tokyo, hereinafter Prometech) has released Particleworks for ANSYS 1.1, an enhanced version of the interface product between Particleworks and the world-leading multiphysics simulation software ANSYS in December 2019.

Particleworks is a mesh-free liquid-flow simulation software based on the moving particle simulation (MPS) method, which is capable of complicated fluid simulations such as liquid dropping, mixing, lubrication, spraying, sloshing and splashing. Because of its easy-to-use operation and unique simulation capabilities, Particleworks has been introduced mainly in the automotive industry and other various fields including machinery, electric, material, food, chemical, biomedical, energy, and civil engineering industries all over the world. Coupling such complicated liquid behaviors with other physical phenomena such as structure, heat, and airflow, it enables more realistic design verifications much closer to actual products’ behavior. Consequently, high expectations for the easy-to-use interface between Particleworks and other CAE software products have increased recently.

Particleworks for ANSYS 1.0 released in July 2019, to respond to such demand. This interface product for ANSYS provides a specialized fast simulation tool for customers that perform liquid flow simulations with large free-surface deformation, complementing Fluent’s high-resolution, high-accuracy free surface results. It makes Particleworks to be able to be used in the ANSYS Workbench environment for combining with ANSYS’ simulation capabilities for more realistic product design evaluations. In version 1.0, coupling with structure has been added, which made structural deformation calculation by fluid pressure and thermal stress calculation using heat transfer coefficient possible. The newly released Particleworks for ANSYS 1.1 has been upgraded with the new capability of liquid simulations considering the effect of the airflow calculated by ANSYS Fluent (thermal fluid simulation software).

Figs. 1 and 2 show the airflow simulation around the side mirrors using ANSYS Fluent and the simulation of raindrops behavior using Particleworks in consideration of the effect of the airflow respectively. In case airflow is not taken into account, raindrops move only by gravity, by which the streamline draws a parabola. When considering the airflow effect, physically realistic raindrops behavior caused both by gravity and the airflow around the side mirrors can be reproduced.

Fig. 2 Raindrops behaviors considering airflow and without considering airflow
By realizing the coupling of ANSYS Fluent and Particleworks on the Workbench environment, it can be expected that evaluation and understanding of fluid dynamics behaviors in design and development processes will be promoted and it will enhance competitiveness in the future. Prometech will continue to expand its capabilities and release new versions of Particleworks for ANSYS.

Prometech has released “Particleworks for ANSYS”, an interface product for world leading Multiphysics CAE “ANSYS”

7/25/2019

Prometech Software, Inc. (President: Tsuyoshi Sumiya, Head Office: Tokyo, hereinafter Prometech) has released Particleworks for ANSYS, an interface product between Particleworks and the world leading multiphysics simulation software ANSYS on July 25th.

Particleworks, a liquid-flow simulation software based on the moving particle simulation (MPS) method, has been introduced in many industrial fields because of its mesh-free, easy-to-use operation and unique simulation capabilities required for fluid phenomena such as liquid drop, mixing, lubrication, spraying, sloshing and splashing. Its appeal to a broad range of users not only in the automotive industry, but also in the machinery, electric, material, food, chemical, biomedical, energy, and civil engineering industries all over the world has been growing over the past 10 years since its first release in 2009.

Today, demand for such complicated liquid flow simulation is increasing not only in niche users but also a growing number of CAE engineers that work with structural, dynamic, thermal, electromagnetic, and/or general fluid flow analysis, who expend considerable effort to determine the influence of liquid flows to and from those physical behaviors. This is also true for users of ANSYS, the world-leading multiphysics simulation software.

Particleworks for ANSYS is developed to provide a specialized, fast simulation tool for customer’s performing liquid flow simulations with large free-surface deformation, complementing Fluent’s high-resolution, high-accuracy free surface results. Particleworks is now integrated into the ANSYS Workbench environment and can be combined with ANSYS’ simulation capabilities for more realistic product design evaluations.

Incorporating Particleworks into the ANSYS Workbench environment enables key features, such as calculating the deformation of a structure caused by fluid pressure, and the transfer of heat from a structure with the heat transfer coefficient. Fig. 1 shows the launch menu of Particleworks in ANSYS Workbench and Fig.2 shows the simulation flow from the liquid flow simulation in Particleworks to the heat transfer simulation in ANSYS.
Picture
Fig.1 Particleworks menu in ANSYS Workbench
Picture
Fig.2 The simulation flow from the liquid flow simulation in Particleworks to the heat transfer simulation in ANSYS
Particleworks can also be integrated with ANSYS Mechanical for calculating e-drives and the cooling of internal combustion engines. In this case, the information about heat transfer and cooling from the Particleworks simulation can be automatically and seamlessly transferred to ANSYS Mechanical to take into account the efficiency of the oil cooling. ANSYS Mechanical will use the boundary conditions from Particleworks to accurately predict the temperature and stress of the e-drive or piston.

In addition, Particleworks can transfer the mechanical pressure distributions during a transient process, such as the pressure produced by the sloshing of fuel or any other liquid in a tank, or the forces produced by water, mud or snow on the bumper of car, to ANSYS Mechanical. In this case, the force history or time-dependent pressure distribution on the structure is mapped from the Particleworks’ CFD simulation to the mechanical analysis to design and verify the structural resistance under dynamic loads.

Prometech joins SOLIDWORKS Partner Program for its Advanced CFD Software Particleworks

4/8/2019

Prometech Software, Inc. (President: Toshimitsu Fujisawa, Head Office: Tokyo, hereinafter Prometech) has joined the SOLIDWORKS Partner Program.

Particleworks has long been established as a leading CFD software in use by companies to enable design engineers to easily and effectively perform trial & error design studies. Particleworks for SOLIDWORKS is a frontloading CFD Software that allows the user to perform all operations from within the SOLIDWORKS environment. It includes functions needed for fluid phenomena that are highly demanded at design sites but that are difficult to reproduce with conventional grid methods (e.g. splashing, mixing and spraying).

Prometech released Particleworks for SOLIDWORKS in Jan 2019. This is a newly developed entry version of the fluid simulation software Particleworks as an add-in tool for SOLIDWORKS®, based on Prometech's particle method (Moving Particle Simulation).

“By becoming accredited as a SOLIDWORKS® Partner Program, we will strengthen our collaboration with  partner companies and continuously provide customers with higher quality functions and services.” Says Prometech President Toshimitsu Fujisawa.
Particleworks for SOLIDWORKS user’s voice:
Nobuhiro Yuhashi, Ph.D., Research & Development Dep., Research & Development Sec., Maruyama Mfg. Co., Inc.
Our company uses SOLIDWORKS as a designing tool. The engineers that mainly work on designs also use SOLIDWORKS Simulation to perform structural analyses. We believe it be very valuable for the CAD-tool to be an all-in-one environment from the model designing stage to the simulation post-processing.

We have been using other CAE software for fluid simulation purposes. However, conventional mesh-based methods are not very efficient for the calculation of complex fluid flow and free-surface flow such as liquid surfaces and sprays. We considered implementing Particleworks for SOLIDWORKS because of its meshfree method and its calculation effectiveness when it comes to free surface flows and large deformations. Further, we regarded its user-friendliness as valuable, because we intend to have both experienced and beginning designers to use CFD for design studies and as a verification tool in the future.

Conclusively, we were very pleased with Particleworks for SOLIDWORKS because of how easily unexperienced designers could operate it. It also was very appealing to us because of it being add-in Simulation Software for the SOLIDWORKS CAD-tool. Performing parameter studies was nearly effortless thanks to the ability to perform analyses directly from the designed 3D data. Furthermore, being able to observe the simulation and the CAD data on the same screen and at the same time, allowed us to continuously reflect on and improve our product design.

Designers are most familiar with their CAD environment. They did not feel any discomfort when using Particleworks for SOLIDWORKS thanks to its full integration in the CAD environment. Therefore we found it suitable to implement at our design site.

We hope to see new simulation capabilities including coupled field analysis with other CAE software tools, e.g. liquid flow and structural coupling, in terms of being add-in software for SOLIDWORKS.

Thank you.
